Welcome to the world Liam and Olivia

We are proud to announce that Liam Nathaniel and Olivia Lauren were born via c-section on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 3:00 and 3:02 am respectively. Liam came out weighing 7 lbs. 8 oz. and measuring 21.5 inches long. Olivia followed quickly after at 6 lbs. 15 oz. and 20 inches long. Coincidentally, July 23, 2010 was our 5th wedding anniversary... what a great gift!

After inducing labor on Wednesday evening it was eventually decided with our doctor that a c-section would be the best option. It was a long battle - one doctor tripped and nearly tore the IV out of my arm, another one knocked the IV stand over on me, the epidural took 8 or 9 tries (I guess I have tight vertebrae), one medicine didn't work and another gave me severe shaking. By about 1:00 a.m. on Friday I had been stuck at 8 centimeters for several hours and it was time to get the twins out. We were a little nervous, but mostly excited to finally meet them! The surgery went great and only lasted about an hour from start to finish.

The babies did great and after getting weighed, measured and cleaned up they were able to come with us to recovery. They are both happy and healthy and we are so proud to be their mommy and daddy. We love them sooooooo much!

More photos coming soon...

The Babies are Coming!

We went to the doctor yesterday and decided that the babies are ready to make their big arrival! I will be admitted to the hospital on Wednesday evening and induced on Thursday morning... unless they come on their own before then! I will be 38 weeks at that point, which is great for twins. This should mean that their birthday will be Thursday, July 22nd - one day before our 5th anniversary. What a great gift!!!

Nursery

The nursery is just about complete! We love the way it has turned out and couldn't have done it without lots of help. My aunt Karen did an amazing job with all the artwork, my mom did lots of shopping, Nathan and my dad drilled and nailed everything securely into the walls, and Nathan's mom cleaned up all their mess and put on the finishing touches!

Baby Shower

Last Saturday was my baby shower. Everything was so beautiful, and I had the best time celebrating with all my family and friends. It was very touching to feel so loved and supported during this exciting time. There were women there who have known me since before I was born, and others who travelled great distances by car and even plane. We received an overwhelming amount of gifts and feel much more prepared for the twins arrival. Many thanks to Cathy, Debbie, my Aunt Karen, my sister Jill, and all their other helpers for such a perfect day!

Grandma Laura Visits

This past week we have been very lucky to have Grandma Laura visit us in California. She was able to attend my baby shower and several doctors appointments. She also worked tirelessly around the house getting everything ready for the babies BIG arrival. She even took Peyton for a walk every morning. We are all going to miss her, but probably Peyton most of all!

Last Day of Work

It's official. Today was my last day of work. I went to the doctor yesterday and he said it is time for me to start taking it easy. My belly measures the size of a full-term pregnancy if I were only having one baby! I am not on official bed rest, but have been instructed to put my feet up and rest up for their big arrival.
